A closer look
Door openings combine frames, doors, hardware, electrified locks, card readers and fire alarm releases. When one piece arrives wrong, the door cannot be finished. Hold a coordination meeting with the hardware supplier, electrician and security vendor, and a keying meeting with the owner early in the project.
Where to start
Schedule the keying meeting at the same time you approve the hardware submittal.
Common mistakes
Late submittals, no electrical coordination and keying decided at the end.
An example
A hospital project discovered late that card reader doors had frames prepared for the wrong locks. Afterward, the GC required a joint review of hardware and security drawings before frames were ordered.
What to track
Track hardware submittal approval dates, frame deliveries, keying decisions and door punch items.
