A construction submittal log that keeps decisions moving

A submittal log is useful when it shows who owns each item, where it sits in review, and when a decision is needed to protect the work plan.

Set up the log

List each required submittal with its specification section, responsible party, planned submission date, reviewer, and required-on-site date. Confirm contract requirements before building the log.

Track every review cycle

Use consistent statuses and record when an item is submitted, returned, revised, and approved. Keep review comments attached to the current version so the field team does not rely on outdated information.

Connect approvals to the schedule

Flag items that affect procurement or installation. When escalating, state the schedule consequence and the decision needed instead of sending a status update without a request.

Review and close out

Review the log in coordination meetings and close superseded items. Keep the project record aligned with contract procedures; the log supports coordination but does not replace formal notices.
